With the approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and recognition by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of the Lagos State University of Education in February, 2022, we have commenced admissions into the Sixty-Seven (67) Take-Off programmes across seven colleges, which are: College of Humanities Education (COHED), College of Science Education (COSED), College of Information and Technology Education (COITED), College of Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (COVED), College of Management and Social Sciences Education (COMSSED), College of Specialized and Professional Education (COSPED), and College of Language and Communication Arts Education (COLCAED). With these colleges, you will find your own road and be assured that you won’t walk it alone. We often are glad making our shoulders readily available for you to stand on to see farther, clearer and better.

LASUED was not established simply to add to the number of universities dotting the higher educational landscape of Nigeria. Instead, this teacher education institution was established to meet a felt need for a university that will make wholesome difference in addressing the educational needs of the citizens.

The resolve of the Lagos State Government to meet this urgent need underscores the fusion of AOCOED and MOCPED to become Lagos State University of Education. While MOCPED had remained a renowned specialist in primary education for almost three decades, AOCOED, which had a humble beginning in 1958 as a Grade III Teachers’ College, had steadily progressed, first, to a Grade II Teachers’ College, then to Advanced Teachers’ College, and in 1986 transformed to a College of Education where teachers are trained for the award of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). Until the transmutation, the two former colleges had successfully run the Sandwich Degree Programmes and later, Full-Time Degree Programmes in education in affiliation with other universities for over a decade. Significantly, we have been mono-course institutions from inception and trained teachers all our life. ‘No other person backs a child better than the mother’ suffices the explanation that we are most suitable for the assignment. We understand the business of teacher education; are endowed with quality man-power; parade adequate infrastructures; have the required experience, and are capable, ready and willing to step up the game.
Above all, we are privileged to have scientifically discovered the enormous potentials for teacher education’s innovation that are capable of driving the attainment of equity in education, and which ironically are dormant in many education systems today. Therefore, we are fully set to not only scale innovations from the margin to the centre of teacher education system but also source, support, and sustain those superlative innovations that address inequality and provide all young people with the skills to build a better future for themselves, their communities, nations and the world. Traditionally, we are confident that in less than a decade of our operation, we shall set forth a leapfrog pathway laying out a map to harness education innovations to much more quickly close the gap in education inequality and also help other institutions out of their crisis.

As a pioneer Vice-Chancellor, I am determined to build on our well-established leading position in the teacher education industry to become a highly-sought university of education within a short time possible. We are set to make LASUED a world-class research-intensive university of education in the next couple of years. Finally, we are committed to delivering research-led teaching and maintaining a supportive, challenging and high-quality experience for our students and staff alike. It is indeed a great time to be part of our world here at the Lagos State University of Education, and I implore you to join us as we move forward to attain greater recognition within the global academic community.
