The Library and Information Science programme is designed to lead to the award of the BLIS(Ed). The programme is expected to cover a period of 3-4 sessions i.e six to eight semesters. The programme address contemporary Library and information Science, Management and Service issues with particular reference to Nigeria and recognizing the benchmarks for library and information service provision globally.
PHYLOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVESThe programme is intended to provide students with intellectual and professional skills which will enable them carry out library and information functions confidently and effectively, making the students adaptable to changing academic and professional situation in Nigeria and beyond. Specifically the programme will provide.
- Personnel for professional work in various types of Libraries with some skill in instructing readers in the use of the library;
- Personnel grounded in the modern techniques of Libraries, Information Science and Media Technology;
- Librarians who can administer School Libraries/Resources Centres and teach Library use and information literacy skills to teachers and students and;
- Requisite skills in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) operations for automated Libraries and Information Centres.
