HOD's Welcome Address

Welcome to the Department of English Education, College of Languages and Communication Arts Education, Lagos State University of Education, Oto Ijanikin, Epe Campus.  It is our utmost aim to help students attain an excellent level of the English language proficiency by developing in  them academic and communication skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing; exposing them to how the English Language is patterned in a systematic way at four principal levels—sounds (i.e. phonetics and phonology, words(i.e. morphology), sentences(i.e. syntax) and meaning(i.e. semantics), and the interplay of these levels in the actual language use (i.e. discourse analysis and pragmatics), and other aspects of the English Language description. Our programmes are also designed to develop students’ creative and critical thinking, analytical abilities, and effective communication through the literature courses floated.

The Department is committed to training competent, resourceful and result-oriented teachers/nation builders through quality pedagogical courses students are taken through. We strongly believe that with this learning, our students will go beyond the boundaries, and develop an excellent level of language and academic skills that will help them in their chosen careers. The Department is doing its best to support students in achieving their goals of choosing English as a course of study and ultimately, in making their dreams come to limelight. It should be noted that one of the goals of the University is raising world class teachers and other professionals who will become advisers to students.
