The Department of Science Education, College of Information and Technology Education (COITED), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Oto/Ijanikin, joined the global community to commemorate the World Science Day for Peace and Development 2025 with an awareness rally across the university campus on Monday, 10th November 2025.
This year’s celebration, themed “Trust, Transformation, and Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050,” sought to inspire renewed confidence in science as a driving force for innovation, sustainable development, and global advancement.
Students of the Department toured the length and breadth of the campus to sensitize members of the university community on the importance of science in shaping a peaceful and prosperous future.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Professor Daodu M.A received the students at the Vice-Chancellor's Office, commended them for their initiative, and charged them to embrace creativity as a tool for progress and prosperity. He emphasized the immense potential of scientific innovation in providing sustainable solutions to global and local challenges while also creating opportunities for self-reliance and national growth.
According to him, “The world is waiting to celebrate your creativity. Don’t just rely on what your lecturers are teaching you; go back home, put on your thinking cap, look at various issues around you, and bring up your solutions.”
He urged the students to see science not just as a course but as a practical means of transforming society and securing a better tomorrow.
The World Science Day for Peace and Development, celebrated annually on November 10th, underscores the vital role of science in promoting peace, fostering innovation, and engaging the public in discussions around emerging scientific issues that affect humanity.
