As part of its strategic moves to combine academic excellence with athleticism, the Lagos State University of Education through the Directorate of Sports led by the Director, Dr. Adeniyi Jimmy successfully held its 2026 Student Games from Monday 20th April to Friday 24th April, 2026. The sports activities took place simultaneously at the Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus and Odo-Noforija Epe Campus, ensuring inclusive participation across the University’s Colleges.
Students subsequently competed in various indoor games, including Scrabble, chess, and badminton, with both male and female categories represented. Other events such as basketball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, and lawn tennis were also keenly contested throughout the week.
Athletics events highlighted in the final day, featuring track races such as the 100 metres, 200 metres, and relay races, alongside field events including shot put, javelin, and high jump. The competition structure encouraged inter-college engagement, as top qualifiers from both campuses advanced to the final stage.
Participating Colleges included Information and Technology Education, Humanities Education, Science Education, and Management Sciences Education from the Oto/Ijanikin Campus, as well as Specialized and Professional Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, Language and Communication Arts Education, and Social Science Education from the Odo-Noforija Epe Campus.
The grand finale of the football event, which served as the highlight of the Games, was witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Daodu M.A., who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye.
In the final standings of the football competition, the College of Science Education (COSED) secured third place, while the College of Humanities Education (COHED) defeated the College of Social Sciences Education (COSSED) 1–0 in a keenly contested final to clinch the gold medal.
Meanwhile, the College of Information and Technology Education (COITED) emerged as the overall winner on the medals table.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor thereafter presented medals and trophies to outstanding athletes and teams, bringing the 2026 Student Games to a successful and memorable close.
