LASUED, TRCN Induct 929 Teachers at 2025 Second Diet Ceremony

The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), in collaboration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) on Thursday 16th April, 2026, held its 2025 Second Diet Induction Ceremony, formally admitting 929 new members into the noble teaching profession. The event, which took place simultaneously at the Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus and Epe Campus respectively marked a significant milestone in teacher education, as newly qualified professionals including PhD, Master’s, PDE, PGDE, Degree, and NCE graduates were officially licensed to teach in Nigeria and internationally. The ceremony drew key stakeholders in the education sector, including university officials, staff, parents, and members of the public. Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of LASUED, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, described the induction as more than a formal exercise, noting that it represents a convergence of academic achievement and professional responsibility. She reaffirmed the University ’s commitment to producing educators who are not only knowledgeable but also ethically grounded and professionally competent. According to her, LASUED’s collaboration with TRCN remains vital in strengthening the teaching profession in Nigeria. "While the university prepares educators academically, TRCN ensures that only qualified and competent individuals are licensed to practice. This partnership is essential in maintaining standards in the sector,” she said. Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye urged the newly inducted teachers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and continuous learning. She emphasized that modern educators must evolve beyond traditional roles to become mentors, innovators, digital guides, and nation-builders capable of navigating a rapidly changing world. Also speaking at the ceremony, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of TRCN, Dr. Aderonke Soyombo, who was represented by Dr. Mary Aba, described teaching as a critical profession that influences all sectors of national development. She encouraged the inductees to see themselves as role models and nation-builders responsible for shaping future generations. The council further highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at improving educational standards, including the strengthening of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), the introduction of digital registration systems, and stricter regulatory enforcement to ensure only qualified teachers are allowed to practice. In her remarks, the Director, Directorate of Teaching Practice at LASUED, Dr. Mrs. Akinkotu Foluke Abimbola congratulated the inductees, describing the occasion as a major milestone in their professional journey. The ceremony symbolized the transition of the graduates from trainees to fully recognized members of the teaching profession, with a renewed call for dedication, integrity, and excellence in service.
