In a bold move to strengthen digital capacity among undergraduates, Lagos State has empowered students from its tertiary institutions with practical software testing and quality assurance skills through an intensive three-day training programme.
The Software Quality Assurance Training Boot Camp was organized by Korrekt Tech in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Students’ Union Matters, Tertiary Education held on three Saturdays including 11th, 18th, and 25th October, 2025, respectively at the 300-seater hall of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus.
Students from Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), and the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) participated in the boot camp, which provided training in fundamental software testing techniques, exposure to real-world tech tools, and guidance on building successful careers in the technology sector.
Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Lagos State, Hon. Sule Tolani lauded the organizers and emphasized the importance of exposing students to emerging technological skills. He urged participants to make good use of the opportunity, remain focused, and avoid social vices that could hinder their progress.
In his own remarks, the Dean, Students’ Affairs, LASUED, Dr Dawodu Rasheed described the training as a highly impactful exercise that gives students practical insight into the tech world. He commended the facilitators for simplifying technical concepts and expressed gratitude to the institution’s management for supporting such an empowering initiative.
Subsequently, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Union Matters, Hon. Kappo Samuel Olawale highlighted the initiative as part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s continuous commitment to student development and digital empowerment. He added that exceptional participants from the programme would be considered for job placements in tech firms.
Convener of Korrekt Tech, Mr Ridwan Abdulazeez said the boot camp aimed to equip students with relevant digital skills to make them stand out in the competitive global tech industry. He announced that certificates of participation were issued to all attendees, recognizing their successful completion of the training and validating their new competencies in software quality assurance.
Facilitators include: the Vice President of the Association of Nigeria Testers, Mr Godspower Osayomwanbo; Senior Quality Assurance Specialist, Mr Oluwatosin Awodire; and, Software Development Engineer, Engr. Adepoju Toheeb Ayobami.
Mr Osayomwanbo introduced the basics of software testing, Mr Awodire handled coding and decoding while Engr. Ayobami discussed software test levels and types.
Other notable individuals present were Mrs Izobo Ronke, representing Prof. Akewushola, Deputy Provost (Administration), Lagos State College of Health Technology, and Mr Waheed Jamiu Aremu, Dean of Students’ Affairs of the same institution, among others.
The boot camp ended with participants expressing enthusiasm for the knowledge gained and appreciation for the Lagos State Government for its continuous efforts in promoting technology-driven education and student empowerment.
