The Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus, on Wednesday, 29th April, 2026 organised the maiden edition of its National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Pre-Mobilisation Briefing and National Education Repository and Databank (NERD) Sensitisation Programme for final year students.

The event, which took place at Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Oto/Ijanikin was aimed at adequately preparing graduating students for the NYSC mobilisation process as well as enlightening them on the use and importance of the NERD online portal.

Speaking at the programme, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. R.A. Dawodu, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, commended the Vice-Chancellor for her unwavering support for student-centred initiatives that continue to strengthen the institution. Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye is the pioneer substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASUED and has continued to champion student development and administrative reforms in the university.

Dr. Dawodu also appreciated all dignitaries present, including officials of the National Youth Service Corps from the National Headquarters, Abuja, for honouring the university’s invitation.

According to him, the sensitisation programme would greatly assist students in understanding the NYSC mobilisation process while helping them avoid common mistakes and challenges usually encountered during registration.

Delivering the NYSC pre-mobilisation lecture, Brigadier General O.O. Nofiu, who was ably represented by Assistant Director, Dr. Abraham Oludolapo, gave an extensive briefing on the rudiments of NYSC registration and mobilisation.

He explained that students must pay adequate attention to biometric capturing, ensure moderate and decent dressing while taking passport photographs, and make use of blood relatives as next of kin during online registration.

He further advised prospective corps members to avoid night travelling, always appear in proper NYSC uniforms while in camp, and seek redeployment where there are medically certified life-threatening health conditions.

Speaking further on the National Education Repository and Databank (NERD), Dr. Dawodu stressed its compulsory relevance to the mobilisation process, noting that “without NERD, there is no NYSC.”

He listed the major NERD requirements to include JAMB admission letter, Senate-approved result, NERD clearance slip, and approved student project, all of which must be uploaded on the portal before NYSC mobilisation.

Students were also directed to visit the official National Youth Service Corps website for more information on mobilisation procedures.

Delivering the closing remarks, the University Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council, Mr. Akinfemiwa Opeoluwa represented by Mrs. O.O. Sobulo, expressed appreciation to the guest speakers, dignitaries, and students for making the programme a success.

She admonished the students to take seriously all the teachings and instructions given regarding the NYSC orientation camp and NERD documentation process, adding that they should count themselves fortunate to benefit from such a timely and informative opportunity.

The sensitisation programme ended with renewed confidence among the final year students as they prepared for the next phase of their academic and national service journey.
