The Department of Agricultural Science Education, Lagos State University of Education, has completed its undergraduate Project Defense sessions.
The intensive defense commenced on Monday, July 20th and successfully concluded on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026.
Over the course of the four days, final-year students stepped up to the podium before the departmental committee and external examiners to defend their research findings, demonstrating incredible academic rigour, resilience, and passion.
This year’s presentations stood out for their strong emphasis on practical, sustainable solutions to real-world agricultural and economic challenges in Nigeria. Students presented highly innovative projects spanning multiple agricultural domains:
1. Animal Production & Waste-to-Wealth: Highlighting sustainable feed alternatives, students showcased the fabrication of a mini maggot production unit designed to harvest high-protein insect biomass for livestock feed. Further notable animal science research included substituting expensive conventional grains with processed local alternative crops, such as cassava grit as an energy source for broiler chicks, optimising growth metrics while reducing feed costs.
2. Agricultural Engineering & Processing Technology: Tackling the critical issue of post-harvest losses, students successfully executed the design and construction of a Solar Hybrid Dryer, introducing a reliable, eco-friendly drying mechanism for year-round crop preservation regardless of weather limitations.
3. Crop Protection & Eco-Friendly Farming: Promoting organic farming practices, research in this domain featured the manufacturing of organic biopesticides aimed at safeguarding crops from pests without the hazardous environmental and health side effects of synthetic chemicals.
The defense committee and department leadership highly commended the graduating cohorts for transitioning from theoretical concepts to actionable, fabricated physical technologies and field-tested methodologies.
